Limite di 3Gb per i nuovi iMac

I nuovi iMac annunciati ieri dispongono di due slot SO-DIMM per l'espansione di memoria RAM; benchè teoricamente potrebbero arrivare a 4Gb, l'espansione massima possibile è 3Gb. Ecco quanto riportato da Apple su una nota ufficiale:

"Although these iMacs will accept up to a 2 GB SO-DIMM
in each of the two memory slots, the iMac will only support
3 GB total memory. If you want to maximize the amount
of SDRAM in your computer, install a 2 GB SO-DIMM in
one slot and a 1GB SO-DIMM in the other."

Le specifiche della RAM per i novi iMac sono le seguenti:

PC2-5400
unbuffered
nonparity
200-pin
667 MHz
DDR2 SDRAM

I moduli utilizzabili in ciascun slot sono quelli da: 512Mb, 1GB o 2 Gb.

Installando due moduli da 2Gb cadauno la finestra "Info su questo Mac" visualizzerà 4Gb ma applicazioni quali Activity Monitor ed Apple System Profiler rileveranno solo 3Gb.Il limite è dovuto probabilmente al chipset Intel per il Merom.
